Name a New Central Heating and Air Conditioning Technology

79 names suggested   //   2,600 watts invested in project

Objective:

To determine a consumer-friendly name/phrase that communicates the benefit of a new technology for central heating and air conditioning systems. The benefit of the new technology is that it helps ensure a proper system installation and day-to-day operation. Specifically, it improves the reliability and energy efficiency at the start-up and over the operating life of the heating and air conditioning system.

Background:

The installation of a heating and air conditioning system is a manual, tedious process, often requiring skilled technicians and multiple tools/gauges. The complexity of a system installation means that human error is quite common. Up to 80% of central heating and air conditioning systems are incorrectly installed, resulting in decreased energy efficiency and reliability. Consumers are not aware of the magnitude of this issue, therefore there is an opportunity to market/communicate the benefit of this technology

A heating and air conditioning system manufacturer has developed a technology that automates part of the system installation and dramatically reduces human error. The end result is a better operating system that provides greater delivered or operating efficiency/reliability.

How the Technology Works:

This technology is similar to the one that provides “plug-n-play” capability across computer components (desktop, printer, scanner, etc.). If a new printer is hooked up to a computer, the computer automatically recognizes the printer and completes a setup. Similarly, if a new air conditioner is installed, this new “plug-n-play” technology will recognize the new components and automatically setup the equipment.

Names Already Discussed:

The technology improves the “Applied”, “Delivered”, “Installed” and/or “Operating” efficiency/reliability of a heating and air conditioning system.

Why do we not like these names?"

1. “Applied efficiency/reliability”: consumers do not understand what this means. It is geared too much toward the contractor.

2. “Delivered efficiency/reliability”: consumers do not understand what this means. It is geared too much toward the contractor.

3. “Operating efficiency/reliability”: too common of a word, it does not explain the benefits well to consumers.

4. “Installed efficiency/reliability”: consumers do not understand what this means. The benefits of the new technology apply after the installation as well.

None of these names are unique and they do not clearly communicate the benefit.
